About
My journey as an artist began when I was a teenager and started painting watercolors outdoors during summers at Point O’Woods on Fire Island, NY. The natural beauty of the landscape, as well as the continuum of artists and art lovers who have been a part of that community, have been a steady source of inspiration.
In college (Duke University, B.A. degree, 1986) I majored in studio art and art history, and continued to make time for painting during the summer months and on my travels. I went to U Penn for architecture school and became a residential architect. Despite my decision to make a living as an architect, I painted as time allowed, occasionally taking significant chunks of time to do so. Those periods included a six-week camper-van painting trip through the western and southern U.S., a semester of study at the NY Studio School, and a two-week stint at the Vermont Studio Center.
In 2021, I made the decision to scale down my architecture practice in order to spend more time painting. My latest chapter brings me to Savannah, GA, where my wife, Robbie, was born, and where many of her family members reside. Like Fire Island, Savannah is a place of exceptional beauty with a thriving community of artists. As such, it should be a great place for continuing my artistic growth and exploration.
